Bioinformatics Integrative Platform for structurE-based Drug Discovery |

This project aims to develop a bioinformatic plataform for drug discovery in Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (CAM), to the best of our knowledge unique in Spain, that will bring together several teams led by international experts in the fields of computational biology, medicinal chemistry, and structural biology, working in different public organizations (UAH, UCM, CSIC, CNIO) and under the auspices of promoting/observing bodies (EPO) from the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries. Despite the continuous increase in investments to discover new drugs, the explosion of extant genomic information, and the availability of new functional genomics techniques, the number of molecules reaching clinical studies is not increasing substantially. Structure-based drug design and optimization are seen as a useful alternative to traditional methods and, in fact, this approach has gained considerable momentum in recent years. |
